Scooby Doo, Where Are You? just wouldn't work without Ted Nichols' musical scores. Yes, it's the same couple of themes recycled over and over again. But too much of a good thing can be wonderful. By turns comic, spooky, menacing, and exciting, the soundtrack to a Scooby episode often picks up where the limited animation leaves off, giving the story some much needed energy. It will often also nicely accent the dark visuals. It's not a meaningful comparison, but contrast these cues with the title music for two Abbott and Costello spook comedies: Hold that Ghost and Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein. Sadly, the cues are not available on CD. In the meantime, here are some samples lifted off the recent DVD release. Chances are you'd recognize which episode they came from even if I didn't give you a clue in the title. When you're done here, you can continue on to the Index of Cheesy Pop Songs. |
